Crime in Leaside

Police Division 53 Staff Sergeant Matthew Moyer says that when it comes to crime Leaside is in “pretty good shape” even though residents have been hit lately with more than the usual number of daytime break-ins, thefts from garages and sheds.

But because the crime rate here is lower than in other parts of 53 Division, he says, a community awareness blitz will not likely be planned until the new year.

Recently thieves stole three bikes from the garage of Donlea resident Kendall Fullerton, who says “there was stuff all over the floor”. Thieves broke into his garage last summer and stole a bike. Mike Young, a neighbour of Fullerton’s, recently found his garage door kicked in but nothing stolen.

Pam Haines’ TREK bike was stolen from her garage on Sutherland Dr. sometime between Sept. 19 and 23.

There was a rash of shed break-ins throughout the summer, particularly on Airdrie and Rumsey in South Leaside and in North Leaside on Divadale.
