The 42nd Annual Canned Goods Drive organized in Leaside at the end of November was up over 10 percent compared to last year.
More than 16,000 non-perishable food items were collected on Saturday, Nov. 30 and distributed to the Flemingdon Park Food Bank, Evangel Hall, Christian Resource Centre, and St. Vincent de Paul Society.
Over 100 volunteers gathered at Leaside Presbyterian Church to gather the food from homes in Leaside. Other local participating churches were Northlea and Leaside United, St Augustine’s, St. Anselm and St. Cuthbert’s. Also helping were Scout organizations and students earning community service hours.
